
Glendora, CA - Sophomore Chris Moore collected three RBI and the Owls pounded out 17 hits as they defeated San Diego Mesa to close out the Fullerton tournament with a 14-2 win. Luis Hernandez (4-4) allowed just one run over six innings, picking up the victory for Citrus College.
After scoring in the bottom of the first and allowing the Olympians to tie the game in the second, Citrus put together their own Athenian-like effort, scoring seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open.
Citrus hit six doubles in the game, including two from Michael Gonzalez, who now has eleven doubles on the season out of the nine-spot in the batting order. Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Eddie Crespo added three hits and seven total players had at least two hits each as SD Mesa starter Michael Chipp (2-6) was rocked for eight runs on five hits over 2.1 innings. Each starter got at least one hit in the game and at least one run scored in the game.
Citrus (17-17) finishes the Fullerton Tournament with a 2-2 record. They will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to face Mt. SAC at 2:30 pm.
San Diego Mesa heads home with a 13-22 record on the season.
