Chaffey 7, Citrus 2
Glendora, CA - Kelly Martin hit her first career grand slam on Saturday as the Owls split a pair of games at Chaffey College. Citrus defeated Mt. San Jacinto in the first game, 10-2 and then fell to Chaffey 7-2.
The first game was over nearly before it started as the Lady Owls put up seven runs in the first inning. After a lead-off groundout, seven straight batters got on base and scored as Citrus collected just two hits, along with three walks and a pair of errors. Amanda Mays hit a two-run double to get things going and soon Martin hit the grand slam to put the game out of reach. Jessica Alvarez (3-1) got the complete game victory for Citrus.
The second game didn’t prove as fruitful for the Owls as they suffered their worst loss of the season, a 7-2 defeat at the hands of #12 Chaffey. The defense struggled to support starting pitcher Corinne Milligan (4-2), committing three errors. This resulted in just two of the seven runs that were surrendered by Milligan being earned.
Shauna Buckholtz was a bright spot in the loss, batting 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a double and both of the team’s runs.
Citrus (7-3) will be back in action on Tuesday as they play host to Rio Hondo.
