Glendora, CA

The smoking Citrus offense, which was averaging over seven runs a game over the past five games, was shut down by a hot pitcher on Thursday. The Owls fell 5-0 to Moorpark in conference action.

Moorpark first got on the board in the top of the third inning when Devin Maxwell tagged starting pitcher Jessica Alvarez for a three-run double. The Raiders added a run in the sixth and one more in the seventh to seal the win.

Citrus (12-4, 3-2 Western State Conference) couldn’t solve starter Amy Pilkington, who threw a three-hitter and allowed just one runner to get into scoring position. Shauna Buckholtz, Karlee Trione and Alvarez each got a hit for the Owls. Trione also came into pitch in relief for the first time this season, shutting out Moorpark over the final 1 2/3 innings.

The Lady Owls will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they play host to the College of the Desert in a double-header.
