
Glendora, CA - Matt Ross went 2-for-2 with a home run and Richie Roseli had three RBI as the Citrus Fighting Owls defeated LA Valley, 5-2 on Thursday in Western State Conference action.
Luis Hernandez pitched into the sixth inning of a 2-2 game, striking out three batters and allowing just one unearned run, before being relieved by Julian Arballo. Arballo allowed just two hits over the final 3.1 innings, striking out six batters to improve to 2-2 on the season.
The Monarchs took an early lead in the first inning when Julian Gestewitz doubled and scored. An unearned run in the third inning, after back-to-back errors at shortstop for Citrus, gave LA Valley a 2-0 lead. Citrus then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a Sacrifice fly by Roseli and the home run by Ross.
Starting pitcher Bobby Phillips worked the first six innings, allowing just two unearned runs for the Monarchs. John Selb (0-2) recorded just one out and allowed three runs in the eighth inning to give Citrus the win.
Citrus (12-11, 6-2 WSC) will be back in action on Saturday as the play host to LA Pierce, weather permitting.
