Baseball’s Final Home Game Ends in Loss

Glendora, CA(Baseball) – The Citrus College home baseball schedule came to a close Tuesday afternoon with the Fighting Owls on the losing end yet again. Citrus got eight strong innings from Thomas Korn, but yet again Korn was saddled with a loss picking up his 10th of the season despite leading team with the lowest ERA.

After giving up one run in the top of the 1st, Korn settled down before striking out nine batters in his time on the mound. Korn’s only other slip-up came in the top of the 6th. After giving up a right-field single to Tyler Garewal to lead off the inning, Korn struck out the next batter and got the third to fly out to center field.

The very next batter, Noe Flores, stepped up to the plate and drilled a two run home-run to right-center field, giving the Renegades a 4-0 lead. Korn got out of the inning when he struck out the very next batter, but the damage was all ready done.

While Korn was pitching fairly well for the Fighting Owls, his counter-part on the hill for Bakersfield was putting together a gem. Justin Miller struck out ten batters, while giving up only two Citrus hits, and walking one batter.

Although they were held scoreless, the Fighting Owls had two opportunities to score runs, but failed on both opportunities. In the bottom of the 4th, Citrus had runners on the corners with only one out, but Michael Gonzales who was sitting on third base was picked off and was immediately followed by a Ryan Cornejo strike out to end the threat.
In the very next inning Citrus had a runner on third base, but after a ground-out and strike-out the Owls were done with the inning, and never managed to threaten the rest of the way.

With the 4-0 loss, Citrus falls to 12-30 overall and 8-15 in conference play. The Fighting Owls will finish their season on Thursday with a trip to Bakersfield.
