Canyons Pushes Citrus Skid to Three

Glendora, CA(Baseball) – Only a week ago, the Fighting Owls had won 5 of 6 games and looked poised to make a run in the 2nd half of Western States Conference play. Just a mere seven days later, and the Citrus College baseball team has lost three straight. The third loss came today as the Fighting Owls fell to College of the Canyons 14 to 1.

The Fighting Owls felt optimistic coming into today’s game, with their ace Thomas Korn on the mound. Their optimism was de-railed rather quickly as an error by Tony Mancuso on a tough throw led to 9 un-earned runs by the Cougars in the 2nd inning.

Citrus didn’t fare much better at the plate, as they strung together just 8 hits over 9 innings. The Owls were able to move runners into scoring position in 4 different innings, but were only able to get one of those runs to cross home-plate. The run came in the bottom of the 8th when Ryan Cornejo got a one out double. Cornejo moved to third after a passed ball, and scored on an error by the Cougars short-stop off a Javier Lizerraga hit.

Canyons scored five more runs between the 4th and 7th innings to build up an insurmountable lead. With the loss the Fighting Owls fall to 10-19 on the season and 6-8 in conference play. Starter Thomas Korn’s record moves to 2-7.
