Fighting Owls 9th Inning Rally Falls Short 

Glendora, CA(Baseball) – The Fighting Owls baseball team suffered their 8th straight loss, 3-5 against WSC leading LA Pierce Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Owls pulled to within 2 runs of the Brahma’s, but fell just short in the final inning.

Freshman Jacob medina went 2 for 4 Tuesday afternoon in the Fighting Owls 5-3 loss to LA PierceThomas Korn got the start for Citrus, giving up just 2 earned runs over the first 7 innings, striking out 3 batters in the process. Korn gave up one run in the 1st inning, before Citrus could tie it up in the bottom of the same inning. After Michael Gonzalez lined out to begin the game, Jacob Medina homered to left-field to tie the score up at 1-1.

The Brahama’s answered back the very next inning taking a 2-1 lead, before ultimately leading 3-1 after 4 innings. Korn would pitch 3 more strong innings, not allowing a run between the 5th and 7th innings. Korn would falter however when he gave up two more runs in the 8th innings.

While Korn was on the mound, the Citrus offense was held to only 2 hits over the first 8 innings, and trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the 9th innings. Gonzalez led off the innings striking out, but getting on 1st after the ball got past the LA Pierce catcher. Medina, who homered earlier in the game, came up to the plate and roped a double to right-center field. The next batter, Tony Mancuso drew a walk loading up the bases for Chris Gomez who was pinch-hitting for Ryan Cornejo.

Gomez hit into a 4-6-3 double-play, but drove in Gonzalez and moved Medina to third. Javier Lizarraga was able to get on 1st and get Medina across home plate, but the Citrus threat ended when Daniel Sandello hit a deep fly-ball to left-field, giving Pierce the 5-3 victory.

With the loss the Fighting Owls fall to10-24 overall and 6-10 in Western States Conference play. Korn record also drops to 2-9. The Fighting Owls will be at home once again, this Thursday as they take on LA Valley College. Game-time starts at 2:30 PM.
