Glendora, CA (Baseball) -- Freshman Timothy Pomierski, Citrus’ young emerging ace, pitched a gem on Saturday afternoon. Pomierski threw a complete game, three hit, six strike-out, shut-out in Citrus’ 3-0 win over Bakersfield.
After giving up a hit to the start the game Pomierski went on to retire 14 of the next 15 batters he faced. Pomierski didn’t even allow a runner past second base, and only allowed a runner past first once (in the opening inning).
With Pomierski mowing batters down, Citrus picked up an opening insurance run, when Jacob Ludvik’s lead-off walk led to an RBI double by Julio Raymundo to make the score 1-0. After that though, Citrus struggled to put runs across plate stranding five runners along the way.
Pomierski got a little more offensive help in the bottom of the seventh when Scott Vincent and Vincent Prado hit back to back solo shots over the left field fence to give the Fighting Owls a 3-0 lead.
That’s all Pomierski needed as he sat the Renegades down in order over the final two innings to pick up his fifth win of the season.
With the win, Citrus (ranked #13 in Southern California) improves to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in WSC South play, while Bakersfield falls to 8-15 overall and 6-8 in conference play. The Fighting Owls will host a make-up game with LA City on Monday, before starting the second half of the conference schedule.
Citrus’ second half schedule starts off with a bang as they host Canyons and LA Pierce all next week. Canyons is currently tied with Citrus atop the WSC standings and LA Pierce sits in second place. Monday’s game with LA City is set for a 2:00 PM start.
