Raymundo Rocks Valley

Glendora, CA (Baseball) -- Sophomore Julio Raymundo absolutely terrorized visiting LA Valley College on Saturday afternoon. Raymundo practically obliterated every pitch he saw, going 3 for 4 with 3 run’s scored, 4 RBI’s, and 2 home runs along the way in Citrus 12-1 win. The one at bat that Raymundo didn’t get a hit, he sent a deep fly ball to center field that was caught at the fence.

Julio RaymundoRaymundo and company didn’t waste any time putting up runs on Saturday afternoon. With lead-off hitter Jacob Ludvik standing on second base, Raymundo laced a double to the center-field wall to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Seconds later, Raymundo was crossing the plate when a Joseph Garcia single to right field scored him from second base.

The Owls would continue to pile it on in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Raymundo got the first of his two bombs in the third, with a solo shot over the right field fence. Freshman Adrian Cota would help the cause an inning later with a double to left-field that drove in two runs, to give Citrus a 5-0 lead.

It didn’t’ end there however as the Owls got another home-run this time off the bat of freshman Kyle Nutter, a two-run shot that pushed the Citrus advantage to 7-0.

While Citrus’ offense was exploding, freshman Timothy Pomierski (2-0) was taking care of business on the hill. While he didn’t strike out any batters, he was extremely efficient, allowing his defense to make plays for him, surrendering just six hits, walking just two batters, and giving up just one run late in the game.

The Owls would add four more runs in the seventh, two from Raymundo’s second home-run (this one to the deepest part of the field), and the other two from a single back up the middle hit by Evelio Ahumada.

When all was said and done Citrus had their 7th win in their last 8 games, and improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in WSC South play in the process. The Fighting Owls will try and keep their momentum going on Tuesday when they travel to LA Valley for a 2:00 PM match-up.
