Baseball Announces Sophomore SigningsGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Citrus College Baseball Head Coach Steve Gomez has announced his 2009 sophomore signings. A total of seven sophomores have signed on to continue their playing careers at the next level. This year’s class is the largest sophomore class to continue on since Gomez took the program over five years ago. Shock and AweWhittier, CA (Baseball) -- Going into Tuesday’s CCCAA Southern California single-elimination playoff game, the Fighting Owls had lost eight of their last eleven games and were limping into the post-season. Citrus took that struggle and flipped it on its ear, drilling #16 seed Rio Hondo 21-8. In the win, Citrus scored a season high 21 runs on a season high 27 hits. Freed At LastGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Sophomore Chris Freedman threw six and two-thirds sterling innings, striking out a Citrus season high nine batters, and led the Fighting Owls to an important 5-3 win over visiting West LA College on Thursday afternoon. Answering the BellGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- After getting knocked down repeatedly over the past two weeks, the Citrus College baseball team (ranked #16 in Southern California), finally got up and answered the bell on Tuesday afternoon. Citrus snapped a six game skid, but scoring eight runs in the bottom of the third to take an important 9-7 victory over visiting LA Mission College. This time though, Citrus never led, and visiting Glendale College dominated from beginning to end in a 14-2 rout of the 2nd place team in the WSC South. Freshman Timothy Pomierski was just one out from his second straight complete game, but instead settled for his sixth victory of the season. The Cougars continued their march through the WSC like Sherman marched through the South with another win this time at the behest of Citrus, who come out on the wrong side of a 7-4 game. Pomierski's Gem Leads Citrus Past BakersfieldGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Freshman Timothy Pomierski, Citrus’ young emerging ace, pitched a gem on Saturday afternoon. Pomierski threw a complete game, three hit, six strike-out, shut-out in Citrus’ 3-0 win over Bakersfield. Late Surge Pushes Citrus Past BakersfieldGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- When it comes to clutch hitting there may be no better team in Southern California than the 13th ranked Fighting Owls. This year alone, four of their 15 wins have come in the final two innings. Parker's Big DebutGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Freshman Jonathan Parker made his debut as a starter for Citrus College on Tuesday afternoon. Parker made the most of it, going two for four with three RBI’s and leading Citrus to a 6-1 victory over visiting West Los Angeles College. If that situation were to arise however, there’s only a few ways you could pull it off. Raymundo practically obliterated every pitch he saw, going 3 for 4 with 3 run’s scored, 4 RBI’s, and 2 home runs along the way in Citrus 12-1 win. The one at bat that Raymundo didn’t get a hit, he sent a deep fly ball to center field that was caught at the fence. Down But Not OutGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The beauty of sports is, that it doesn’t matter how long you trail for as long as when the game ends the scoreboard is in your favor. The Citrus College baseball team trailed for eight innings in Tuesday’s game with LA Pierce College, but a three run rally in the bottom of the ninth gave the Owls their sixth straight victory in their 5-4 win over the Brahma’s. The first came in the eighth inning, when the Cougars elected to intentionally walk sophomore Julio Raymundo to get Nutter. The bet payed off as Nutter struck out. Nutter BetterGlendora, CA (Baseball) – Freshman third baseman Kyle Nutter, went 2 for 3 with 3 run’s scored while fellow freshman center fielder Jacob Ludvik was 3 for 3 with a run scored, as the duo helped the Fighting Owls improve to 3-1 with a 6-4.. Baseball Wins Big in Home OpenerGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College baseball team opened up their 2009 home baseball slate with a bang on Friday afternoon, as they absolutely dominated visiting Chaffey College 15-2.
