Glendora, CA (Baseball) -- For the first time this season, the Citrus College Baseball team, ranked #9 in Southern California was held scoreless in a 7-0 loss to #5 LA Mission College. The Fighting Owls had a runner past second base on just one occasion, as they suffered just their second home loss of the year.
Sophomore Scott McKeen got the call to start for Citrus and pitched good enough for the first fiving innings, surrendering just two runs in that span. McKeen ran into trouble in the sixth though as he gave up four straight singles to begin the inning and was yanked after the fourth. Mission would add four runs before all was said and done and took a commanding 6-0 lead after six.
With the Mission bats opening the game up, Eagles starting pitcher John Boersma, continued to mow down the Fighting Owls batters. Boersma would go the full nine striking out five Fighting Owls along the way. Citrus’ best chance for a run would come in the ninth when Luis Hernandez made it to third with just one out. Citrus couldn’t cash him in though, as both Greg Salcido and Paul Chavez grounded out to end the threat and inning.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 13-6 and 4-3 in WSC South play, while Missions record improves to the same as Citrus’. The Fighting Owls will try to avenge Saturday’s loss on Tuesday when they travel to Sylmar to take on the Eagles. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
