Former Fighting Owls Find Success at Next LevelGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- A pair of former Citrus College baseball players enjoyed a healthy amount of success this past year at their new institutions. Pitchers Chris Freedman (William Penn) and Matt Baudino (La Verne) both earned post-season honors recently for their play in 2010. Nine Baseball Players Earn Post-Season NodsGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Nine Citrus College baseball players earned post-season awards this past weekend. Leading the charge was a pair of sophomores in Joseph Garcia and Luis Zeledon who both earned 1st team All-WSC honors. Shut DownGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College baseball team, hanging on to their playoff hopes by a thread, had that thread ripped bare on Tuesday afternoon as they were shut down by the Bakersfield College Renegades 7-3. The Fighting Owls scored a pair of runs in the opening inning and were pretty much shut down the rest of the way as they lost their fifth game in a row. FreefallingGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- After starting off the season with 16 wins in their first 22 games, the Citrus College baseball team looked poised to compete for a WSC South Championship and possible playoff push. Since then though, the team has taken a free-fall and have now lost eight of their last 11 contests, including a disappointing 3-7 loss to LA Mission on Thursday afternoon. Revenge of the Baseball GodsGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- After escaping five run deficit on Tuesday thanks to a rain-out, the Citrus College baseball team got a chance to wipe the slate clean on Wednesday afternoon when they made up the rain out with Glendale on Wednesday afternoon. Things seemed to be going Citrus’ way when they took an early 4-2 lead and then 5-4 advantage into the top of the ninth. That’s when things went South though and the baseball gods intervened as Glendale scored two in the top of the ninth to upset Citrus 6-5. Baseball vs Glendale Postponed Due To RainGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Western State Conference South Division game between Glendale College and Citrus College was called during the third inning of their contest on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams will start from scratch tomorrow (Wednesday), pending better weather. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM. Jack AttackGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Citrus College sophomore Jack Schellin went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI’s as he helped lead Citrus to a big 12-7 win over visiting LA Pierce College on Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Owls scored multiple runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings as they kept themselves in the playoff hunt with the victory. Mistakes Cost CitrusGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College baseball team had the perfect chance to pull into a first place tie with Canyons College on Tuesday afternoon when the hosted the Cougars for a WSC South match-up. The Fighting Owls shot themselves in the foot though, as Citrus committed three costly errors and had three passed balls that led to five unearned runs for Canyons in a 7-8 loss to the Cougars. Back In the MoneyGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Over the last four games, the Citrus College Baseball team has had a tough time cashing in the runners that get on base. In that span, Citrus left over 40 runners on the base paths, stranding almost twice as many base runners as their opponents. All of that turned around on Thursday afternoon as the Fighting Owls pounded Bakersfield with 23 hits in a 15-2 win over the Renegades. One Swing of the BatGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- One swing of the bat. That’s all it took in the San Gabriel Valley non-conference rivalry game between Mt. San Antonio and Citrus College on Thursday afternoon. The Mounties got a 3-run home-run from Jacob Almaraz in the top of the second inning, and it would be the only thing separating the two teams in Citrus’ 1-4 loss. Giving ‘Em ZellGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Since the start of WSC South play there has been no hotter hitter than Sophomore Luis Zeledon (.474, 10 RBI’s). Zeledon continued his hot hitting ways on Saturday afternoon as he went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI’s in Citrus 9-3 win over visiting West LA. Baseball Ranked #1 in Southern CaliforniaGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College Baseball team is having what is arguably its best season in a decade so far in 2010, and it just got a little better. For first time in recent memory, the Fighting Owls hold the #1 ranking in the latest Southern California RPI report. Owls Blanked by MissionGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- For the first time this season, the Citrus College Baseball team, ranked #9 in Southern California was held scoreless in a 7-0 loss to #5 LA Mission College. The Fighting Owls had a runner past second base on just one occasion, as they suffered just their second home loss of the year. Hart and Arecenaux Shut Down GlendaleGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Sophomore Matthew Hart and Freshman Justin Arecenaux combined to pitch seven shut-out innings of relief in #10 Citrus’ 6-3 2win over #18 Glendale on Thursday afternoon. The duo gave up just four hits and struck out seven batters between the two of them, as Citrus picked up their 13th win of the season. Baseball Drops First Home Game of SeasonGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College Baseball team dropped its first home contest of the season on Saturday afternoon in a 3-8 loss to LA Valley. The Fighting Owls used five different pitchers, gave up 12 hits, and left 13 runners on the bases as they suffered their second conference loss of the year. Zeledon Leads Citrus Past #4 PierceGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Sophomore Luis Zeledon scored the winning run in Tuesday afternoon’s 6-5 win over #4 LA Pierce College. Zeledon broke from third on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning as #15 Citrus picked up their first WSC South win of the season. Garcia’s Walk-Off Lifts Citrus Past San Bernardino ValleyGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Citrus College sophomore Joseph Garcia’s two out bottom of the ninth walk-off single against San Bernardino Valley gave Citrus a 5-4 win over the Wolverines on Tuesday afternoon. Garcia went 2 for 5 with an RBI, as he lifted Citrus to their 9th win of the season. Hart BreakerGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Citrus College Sophomore Matthew Hart pitched five and a third sterling innings of relief on Wednesday afternoon. Hart (2-0) struck out five batters and surrendered just two hits and gave up no runs as he helped lead #19 Citrus two a 12-7 win over Oxnard College. Saint NickGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- Freshman catcher Nicholas Bergara went two for four and drove in the go ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning in Citrus College’s 4-3 win over East Los Angeles College. #19 Citrus was out-hit 9-7, but East LA committed three errors as Citrus picked up their seventh win of the season. Baseball Suffers First Loss of YearGlendora, CA (Baseball) -- After starting off a blazing 5-0 and averaging 13 runs a game, the Citrus College baseball team finally met its match on Wednesday afternoon...
