Lancaster, CA (Cross Country) – As the Fighting Owl’s participated in the SoCal Cross Country Championships hosted by Antelope Valley College today, the 2006 cross country season has come to a close for all of Citrus College’s team members with the exception of one, Hector Cordova.
On the women’s side of things, the Lady Owl’s finished in 27th place out of 28 teams. It was a strong finish to a decent year for the Lady Owl’s who weren’t expected to be as competitive as they have been all season long.
Christina Soto was first through the tape in 99th place with a time of 23:17 through the 5k course. Nathalie Valentine was the only Lady Owl to finish in the top 150 with a time of 24:18 and 128th place.
The men’s squad finished their season on a somewhat disappointing note finishing in 24th place out of the 28 teams in Lancaster. The one exception to the rule was Cordova who finished in 56th place out of the 199 individual runners participating in the event. Cordova blazed the course in a time of 23:52, leading all Owls through the finish line.
The nearest Citrus College team-mate to Cordova was Frank Aldar who finished in 106th place, a minute behind Cordova with a time of 24:50. Pierre Moreno was the only other Fighting Owl to finish in the top 150, as he finished in 117th place with a time of 25 minutes flat.
Cordova advances to the State Championships November 18th 2006 at Woodward Park in Fresno, California.
