San Luis Obispo, CA (Cross-Country) -- The Citrus College women's cross-country team continued to improve this week as they placed 10th in the WSC Cross-Country Championships on Tuesday. It also proved to be the 2nd best finish of the year for Citrus' top female runner Christina Soto, as she finished 27th out of the 93 total runners.
Soto set the pace for the Lady Owls averaging just over a seven minute mile over the 5K course. Soto finished with a time of 22:38 just one second behind the next closest finisher. Jennifer Bustillos continued her push up the WSC ladder as she also came across the finish line with a strong showing, finishing 33rd with a time of 23:05.
On the men's side, Adolfo Cortez led the pack of Citrus runners with a time of 25:45 and 53rd place out of 103 runners. Cortez averaged 6:26 a mile over the 4-mile course, and finished just six seconds ahead of the his closest teammate, Christian Ramirez. Ramirez, finished two spots behind Cortez as he ran the course in a time of 25:51. The men eventually finished 11th out of the 13 participating teams.
Both teams season is not yet over as they will both be participating in the Southern California Championships to be held in Irvine, California next Saturday November 2nd. Start time is set for 10:00 AM.
