Santa Maria, CA (Cross Country) -- The Citrus College women's cross-country kept their season alive on Tuesday afternoon, when they finished in 8th place at the Western State Conference Championships. Thanks to their strong finish, the Lady Owls have qualified for the Southern California Championships taking place next weekend in Bakersfield, CA.
As has been the case all year, freshman Vanessa Esquivel led Citrus across the finish line, finishing in 11th place out of 99 runners participating. Esquivel crossed the finish line with a time of 20:55.2. Finishing just behind her was Cynthia Acedo who came in 27th place with a time of 21:58.9.
While the women qualified for the SoCal Regionals, the men didn't fare as well, finishing in 13th place out of the 13 teams participating. Even though the men struggled, they did manage to place one individual runner in the Southern California Championships. Freshman Gilbert Del Muro placed 50th with a time of 24:08.7 just making the cut.
The women and Del Muro will be traveling to Kern County Soccer Park in Bakersfield on Friday November 7th to try and prolong their seasons even further. Races are set to begin at 2:00 PM.
