Glendora, CA (Cross Country) -- A week after placing sixth at the Ventura Invitational sophomore Vanessa Esquivel continued her assault on the cross country courses of California with another strong finish, this time at the Fresno Invitational.
In a meet that hosts most of the top teams in the State, Esquivel finished a strong 24th with a time of 19:59. Along with freshman Melissa Granados, who finished 34th with a time of 20:14, Esquivel helped push the Lady Owls to a 14th place team finish out of the 20 participating schools (including seven Western State Conference teams).
Also finishing in the top 100 was sophomore Cynthia Acedo who posted a time of 21:16 in the 5K race, good for 60th place.
On the men’s side, the Fighting Owls struggled. Citrus’ highest finisher was Max Urieta who finished with a time of 25:06, the 139th best time in the competition. Unfortunately for Citrus, they would finish 26th out of the 26 teams.
The Fighting Owls will continue their 2009 slate this weekend at the Orange Coast Classic. Saturday’s race is set for a 10:00 AM start.
