Greer Named Coach of the Year & Lady Owls Earn Three All-Conference Nods

Glendora, CA (Cross Country) -- Citrus College Head Cross Country Coach Maury Greer was named the 2009 Western State Conference Coach of the Year for leading his women’s team to their first State Championship berth since the mid 90’s. Greer had three runners place in the State top 110, as the Lady Owls posted their best season in over 10 years.

Also joining Greer on the All-Conference list were Citrus’ top three runners this past season: Vanessa Esquivel, Melissa Granados, and Cynthia Acedo. Esquivel finished in 13th place at the WSC Championships and 38th place at the State Championships, enough to earn herself a 1st Team nod, while Granados’ 17th place finish at the conference finals grabbed her 2nd Team recognition. Rounding out the trio was Acedo who earned Honorable Mention honors and finished in 33rd place at the WSC Finals.

On the men’s side sophomore Daniel Mendoza was the lone male representative on the All-Conference list for the Fighting Owls. Mendoza finished in 59th place and earned Honorable Mention honors.
