Walnut, CA (Cross Country) -- The Citrus College Women’s Cross Country team is headed to the 2009 CCCAA State Championships in two weekends. The Lady Owls finished 15th out of the 28 participating teams at the Southern California Championships on Friday, earning a spot in the State Finals.
After finishing 77th at last year’s SoCal’s, sophomore Vanessa Esquivel finished in 43rd place at this year’s race. Esquivel finished the 3-mile course in a time of 19:51 and averaged a 6:37 mile. Freshman Melissa Granados would continue her incredible season as well finishing in 61st with a time of 20:18.
All in all Citrus would have four Lady Owls finish in the top 100 as sophomore Cynthia Acedo finished 80th (20:45), and fellow sophomore Crystal Moreno finished in 95th (21:01).
The Fighting Owls did have one male representative at Friday’s meet. Sophomore Daniel Mendoza’s community college career came to a close as he finished in 164th place with a time of 24:07.
The 2009 CCCAA Cross Country State Championships are set to begin on November 21 at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. Race time is set for 10:00 AM.
