    Monday, September 21, 2009

Newport Beach, CA (Cross Country) -- Led by freshman Melissa Granados, the Citrus College Women’s Cross Country team continued their assault on Southern California cross country courses this past weekend finishing seventh at the Orange Coast Classic. Granados turned in Citrus’ second top 10 individual finish of the year, taking 10th place with a time of 19:28.72.

Sophomore’s Cynthia Acedo and Vanessa Esquivel would continue to be solid for Citrus on Saturday, as Acedo finished 51st and Esquivel finished 61st. Acedo would cross the finish line in a time of 21:13.68, while Esquivel didn’t have her best showing of the year, but still managed to finish with a time of 21:39.49.

Thanks in large part to their performance on Saturday, the Lady Owls moved up one spot in the weekly Southern California Rankings, appearing at number 12 this week.

For the men, it would be another disappointing Saturday as they finished 21st out of the 21 participating teams. Sophomore Daniel Mendoza had the team’s best time at 24:31.02 good for 149th place.
