    Trio Keeps Citrus Chugging

    Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Huntington Beach, CA (Cross Country) -- Through four weeks of the cross country season, three things have remained the same for the Citrus College Women’s Cross Country team. Those three things have been the consistency of Sophomores Vanessa Esquivel and Cynthia Acedo and freshman Melissa Granados. The trio kept doing what they do best as they led Citrus to a season best fifth place finish at the Golden West Invitational this past weekend.

Leading the way for the Lady Owls was Esquivel who ran a season best time of 19:58 good enough for 13th place. Finishing just behind her was Granados who finished in 21st with a time of 20:16, and then Acedo who ran the course in a time of 21:22 and finished in 42nd place.

Thanks to their performance the Lady Owls moved up in the Southern California poll for the third straight week. This week, Citrus came in at #11.

While the men, aren’t having nearly as great a season as the women, they did show some improvement last Friday. The men finished in 19th place, their best finish of the season. Gilbert Del Muro was the men’s top runner last weekend, finishing in 122nd place with a time of 24:20.

The Fighting Owls continue their 2009 slate this weekend as they participate in the Foothill Invitational at Legg Lake in El Monte. The first race is set to begin at 10:00 AM.
