    Women’s Cross Country Still Running Strong

    Walnut, CA (Cross Country) -- The Citrus College Women’s Cross Country continued to run strong this past weekend as it participated in the Southern California Preview hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. The Preview hosted 39 teams, including five from out of state, as the Lady Owls finished 17th in Saturday’s competition despite missing their number two runner Melissa Granados.

    Like clock work, sophomore Vanessa Esquivel led Citrus across the finish line finishing in 17th place with a time of 19:35. Esquivel averaged a 6:32 mile, and finished in the Top 20 for the fifth time this year.

    For the men, Daniel Mendoza would be Citrus’ best finisher (211th place) as he crossed the finish line with a time of 26:11. The men struggled finishing 31st out of the 37 competing teams.

    The Southern California Preview marked the close of the 2009 regular season cross country slate. The Fighting Owls will take the weekend off and then turn their attention to the WSC Championships which will take place on Tuesday October 27th at Fairbanks Park in San Luis Obispo, CA. The race is expected to start at 3:00 PM.
