Top Players to Division I

The Citrus College Fighting Owls announced this week the signing of three of their top players from 2005 to division I contracts.

Leading the way is running back Dario Camacho, who heads for Purdue. Camacho finished the season with 1563 rushing yards and ten touchdowns. He led the state in rushing, averaging 156.3 yards per game. He was named the Western State Conference Player of the Year and earned an All-State selection.

Head Coach Kevin Emerson said, "Dario is an extremely hard worker and he has done what he needed to do to play at the next level.'

Chris Camacho will join his brother in the Division I ranks, but on the other side of the country, playing for the University of Hawaii. Camacho is a corner cover who consistently provided strong defense against the top WR from opposing schools. Camacho was fourth on the team in tackles last season with 57, adding seven pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Coach Emerson credits the Camacho brothers parents with their success. "Mom and Dad did a great job raising their sons," he said. "The have a great moral fabric in the family and that has led them to great things. They looked at all of the programs in this area and the chose Citrus because we were able to provide them with the tools they needed to move on to the next level."

Also signing a division I contract was Offensive Tackle Ken Rodriguez. Rodriguez was the staple of the offensive line this season and was the unit leader as the only starting sophomore in the group. "Ken persevered to get his academics in order so that he could have a chance to move on and we are proud of him for all that he accomplished," said Emerson. "Ken was the leader of our o-line and without that group, Dario doesn't put up the rushing numbers he did and our passing game isn't nearly as successful."
