After guiding the Citrus College Owls to their share of a third straight Western State Conference championship last season, two returning players have received prestigious early-offers with major-conference schools.

Starting Quarterback Bryan Waggener has received an early scholarship offer at SEC powerhouse University of Florida. Waggener will make a visit to Gainesville in the next few weeks. The Gator coaching staff had been evaluating Waggener during most of his freshman campaign and made their official offer on Tuesday. Waggener had a strong freshman year, throwing for 1939 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 61% of his passes.

Citrus Head Coach Kevin Emerson is excited for Waggener’s future. He said, “Brian is a self-made player. He is one of the hardest and most committed players on our team. His hard work and dedication has resulted in this opportunity. He does very well in the classroom and is able to balance the workload of football as well as school.”

The University of Missouri will welcome Defensive Lineman Martin Lane into the fold in 2007. The Mizzou Tigers, a Big 12 school, liked what they saw during Lane’s freshman season and are eager for him to join the program. A strong pass-rusher, Lane had seven QB hurries and 1 ½ sacks last season.

Emerson said, “Lane is an extremely hard worker. His off-season has gone very well. Martin joined Citrus team last year weighing 253lbs and is now at 283lbs. His dedication in the weight room has put him in a position to compete at a very high level.”

Both Waggener and Lane will play for Citrus for the 2006 season and will then transfer to their universities for the 2007 football season.
