Offers and Signings Abound for Fighting Owls

Glendora, CA (Football) – After having helped navigate their team to a 4th straight Western State Conference Southern Division Championship, 7 Fighting Owl’s have either been offered or accepted a scholarship to continue playing at the next level. Leading the list is quarterback Bryan Waggener and defensive back Josh Broughton.

Waggener, who has accepted a scholarship to continue his career at the University of Florida, Quarterback Bryan Waggener (10)capped off his 2006 campaign with 2nd team All-WSC honors while completing 57.6% off his passes for a total of 1,558 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Broughton, a 2nd team All-WSC selection this past season, has accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Utah. Broughton was one of the Fighting Owl’s most reliable corners last year recording 14 solo tackles and leading the Owl’s in pass break-ups with 5.

While Broughton and Waggener have been the only two players to accept offers thus far, other Fighting Owl’s are still pondering offers. Defensive lineman Martin Lane, who spent most of the year plugging up holes for one of the top run defenses in the state, has been offered a scholarship to continue his career at the University of Missouri. Offensive Lineman, Mike Combest has also been offered a scholarship. Combest who helped make big holes for 1,000 yard rusher Leonard Mason, has been offered a scholarship to Division I Southeast Missouri State.

Other Owl’s who have been offered scholarships are wide receiver Charles Lewis (Henderson State and Montana State), kicker Kirk Cabana (Henderson State and Portland State), and defensive back Mark Boyd (Olivet Nazarene). Boyd recorded 3 tackles and 2 pass break-ups for the Fighting Owl’s this past season.

Lewis was Waggener’s favorite target throughout the year, often fighting through double teams to get to the ball. Lewis was the recipient of 43% of Waggener’s, passes hauling in 61 catches for 735 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Cabana proved to be one of the most reliable kickers in the WSC, connecting on 11 of his 14 tries, including a perfect 6 of 6 between 20-29 yards and 5 of 6 from 30-39 yards. Cabana was also second on the team in scoring accounting for 63 points for Citrus.

Nine other Fighting Owl’s are still weighing their options of which university to attend, helping keep Citrus College’s tradition of moving their players on to the next level, alive and well.
