Glendora, CA(Football) -- Coming into Saturday nights game against Allan Hancock everyone knew what the Bulldog game plan would be. Run the ball, and then run it some more. Even though everyone knew what was coming, it didn’t mean that it would help, as the Bulldogs racked up 405 yards rushing against a Citrus defense that was allowing just over 150 yards a game in Hancock’s 48-38 win over the Fighting Owls on Friday night.

After Citrus got on the board first with a 21 yard Kyle Eden field goal, it would become the Bulldog show, as Allan Hancock scored 28 unanswered points. After a 2-yard Diondre Bryant touchdown run with just 47 seconds to play in the first half, Citrus finally responded.
Trailing 28-3, the Fighting Owls got a great kick-off return from Adolph Overstreet who returned the ball 45 yards to Allan Hancock 35-yard line. With their best field position of the night, Citrus used three plays to go 35 yards, scoring on a six yard TD pass from Austin Goldsmith to Tyra Waits, to cut the Hancock lead to 18 going into the half.
With the momentum potentially swinging Citrus’ way, the Fighting Owls defense rose up, forcing the Bulldogs to punt their first three possessions of the third quarter. With the defense finally giving the offense room to work, Citrus came up short as the Bulldog defense returned the favor forcing Citrus to punt their first three possessions of the second half.
All the momentum that Citrus had left the field when Bryant took Hancock’s first play of their fourth possession from the Citrus 44 yard line and ran it all the way into the end-zone pushing the Hancock lead to 35-10. The Fighting Owls would score on the next possession, but Hancock answered with another one-play drive and Bryant touchdown, this time from 47 yards out that pushed the game out of reach at 42-17.
Trailing by 25 in the fourth, Citrus’ offense finally came alive with four touchdowns including a 46 yard strike from David Potts to Adolph Overstreet, but it was too little too late, as Owls fell 38-48.
In the loss, Citrus was led by Potts who threw for 234 yards and 4 TD’s. Freshman wide-receivers Tyra Waits and Adolph Overstreet were the biggest recipients of Potts out-pouring as Waits racked up 101 yards and two TD’s on eight catches, while Overstreet caught five balls for 135 yards and one TD. For Hancock, it was sophomore Bryant, who had 24 carries for 216 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively the Owls were led by Namari Flentroy, Raymond Johnson, and Bronze Withem who all had eight tackles each. For the Bulldogs, it was Brent Thomas who recorded six tackles, including four for a loss, and one sack.
With the loss Citrus falls to 1-3, while Hancock, ranked #18 in Southern California, improves 3-1. Citrus will begin conference play next week as they travel to Palm Desert for a match-up with College of the Desert. Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM.
