Football Loses Final Game of Season

Riverside, CA (Football) -- The Citrus College football season came to a close on Saturday evening, as the Fighting Owls fell 21-43 to Riverside City College. The Fighting Owls were plagued by turnovers, as has been the case all year long, as they turned the ball over six times in the loss.

Riverside wasted little time in getting after Citrus, as they took the opening drive of the game 64 yards for a score giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead. On the ensuing kick-off Adolph Overstreet gave Citrus great field position, returning the kick-off 53 yards to the Riverside 37 yard line.

In striking distance of the Tiger end zone, the Fighting Owls took four plays to score, when Austin Goldsmith hooked up with Jonathan Price for a 28 yard strike, tying the game up at 7-7. After that it was all Riverside. After the Citrus defense forced the Tigers into a three and out, Goldsmith threw a pick six to Riverside’s James Calhoun that gave RCC a touchdown lead.

On the Tiger’s very next possession, after another Goldsmith interception, RCC scored again, this time thanks to a 14 yard TD pass from Nathan Lamonica to Jacob Slouka. Citrus would answer back in the second quarter thanks to a 7-yard TD scamper by Isaac Tucker, but Riverside would add two more scores before the end of the half, and two more in the third as they pulled away from the Fighting Owls.

In the loss Citrus was led by Overstreet who hauled in five passes for 96 yards, and picked up an additional 147 yards on kick-off returns. Defensively, Citrus was paced by Christyn Lewis who recorded 9 tackles, 1 pass break-up, and a blocked kick. With the loss Citrus’ season record ends up at 2-8 overall and 1-5 in Central Division play.
