Glendora, CA(Men’s Basketball) – The 2006-2007 season finds the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team in a good place. The Owl’s coming off one of their best season in over a decade, are primed and ready to go with a deep squad and more talent than it has seen in some time. The Fighting Owl’s proved most of that tonight as they kicked off their campaign with a dominating 91-71 win over Grossmont College Tuesday night.

Sophomore Chad Allan The Owl’s never trailed from whistle to whistle, jumping out on the Griffins early with a 17-3 lead 5 minutes into the game. The Griffins would crawl to within 5 at the end of the first half with the Owl’s leading 45-40 going into halftime.

After a 2nd half opening jumper from the Griffins Brett Allred to get them within 3, the Owl’s take control and never look back and never allowing the Griffins to get closer than those three points.

Chad Allan led all Citrus scorers pouring in 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Allan was also second in the team in rebounds ripping down 8 boards on the night. Deonta Black had a stellar game coming off the bench and playing 23 minutes. Black had 17 points and tied Aaron Arango for the lead in rebounds with 9 boards. Arango also chipped in on the night with 13 points.

The Owl’s were stingy on defense forcing 22 turnovers. The Owl’s also proved opportunistic scoring 25 points off those 22 turnovers. The Owl’s held the Griffins to 37.1% shooting from the floor and 23.1% from the beyond the 3-point arc.

The Owl’s themselves shot 39.2% from the floor including a 40% clip in the 2nd half. The Owl’s struggled a bit with 3-point shooting however, shooting only 23.8% from beyond the arc which was brought down by a 3 for 17 and 17.6% effort in the 1st half.

With the win, the Owl’s move to 1-0 in the brand new season. The Owl’s be at home yet again tomorrow, as they play host to Victor Valley College. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.
