Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) – The 2006-2007 Citrus College men’s basketball season continues to be a banner season, as the entered this weeks Southern California poll in the highest spot they’ve been in over a decade. The Fighting Owl’s checked in at #9 in the SoCal polls and #16 in the state this past week.

Phil FriesenThe Owl’s moved back into the top 15 after an impressive run at the Riverside City Tournament last week. The Owl’s made a lot of noise by knocking off the #2 and #5 teams in Southern California before falling to the #1 team in the state by 5 points in the championship game.

Fighting Owl’s Buchi Awaji and Phil Friesen were named to the All-Tournament team, in leading the Owl’s to the championship game. With an appearance in the championship game of the Riverside tournament, the Owl’s had made the championship game of all 3 tournaments they have participated in thus far in the season.

Friesen also made a dent this past week in being named an honorable mention honoree in the COA Athlete of the Month awards for the month of November. Leading one of the deepest teams in recent history, Friesen has made his mark on a team full of many capable scorers. During the month of November Friesen led the Fighting Owls in scoring 14.2 points per game. Friesen was one of only 6 male athletes to receive the honor in the whole state of California.

The Fighting Owl’s who have been off this week resume play tonight as they travel to Cypress, CA to take on the Chargers of Cypress College. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm.
