Walking in a Winner Wonderland

Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) – The great Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” With that adage in mind, winning has been the only thing that the Citrus College men’s basketball team has been doing this year, as it won its 15th game of the year to open up the year 15-1.

Sophomore Buchi Awaji scored a game high 19 points on 8 of 9 shooting, while fellow guard Darren Moore added 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting, as they cruised to a 95-82 win over Southern California’s 10th ranked El Camino College.

Citrus would lead wire to wire after jumping out to an eight point lead after the first six minutes of the contest. The Warriors would to pull to within four points with just over ten minutes to play, but Citrus would close the first half with a 12-6 run over the final three minutes to take a 20-point 57-37 lead into the half.

In the second half the Owls would coast, leading by as much as 23 points with just over five minutes to play. El Camino would close the game with a 13-3 run, but it was too little too late as Citrus settled for a 13-point win.

Freshman AJ Greenwood ripped down a game high 7 rebounds, while fellow Frosh Kelly Johnson dished out a game high 7 assists. Citrus was on fire in the first half shooting 63.2% from the floor, but struggled from the charity stripe as they shot just 50% from the free-throw line.

Citrus will take the next couple of days off for Christmas, but will be back on the floor next weekend as it plays host for the Chipotle Holiday Classic. The Fighting Owls will play two games in two nights beginning Friday December 28 at 5:00 PM as Citrus hosts the Roadrunners of Rio Hondo College.
