Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Former Cal State Fullerton stand-out Hardy Asprilla has joined 2008-2009 Citrus College Men’s Basketball staff. The former Titan appeared in 12 games during the 2004-2005 season averaging 8.5 points and a team high 8.8 rebounds before blowing out his knee in a season ending injury.
Born and raised in Bucaramanga, Columbia, Coach Asprilla will help coach the big men for the reigning state champion Fighting Owls. Coach Asprilla is familiar with the community college game, as he played post for College of the Sequoias during the 2002-2003 season. During that time, Asprilla averaged 17.3 points and a Central Valley Conference high 9.7 rebounds per game.
“I’m looking forward to living up to the expectations that come with working at a community college that went 35-1 last season,” Asprilla said. “It’ll be very challenging, but at the same time it’ll be great because you want to be with the best team you can be with.”
Along with his extensive collegiate resume, Coach Asprilla has a storied history with the Columbian National team where he played in South American tournaments representing his home country.
“I’m really looking forward to the learning that will take place this year on this coaching staff, and the joy of being around a team that has a legitimate chance at winning back to back state championships,” Asprilla said.
Citrus will begin its title defense on Tuesday November 11, with a home match-up with Mira Costa College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
