Glendale, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- After suffering a disappointing 75-76 loss at Santa Monica on Saturday night, the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team, ranked #4 in the State, bounced back with a dominating 94-73 victory at Glendale College.
The Fighting Owls would lead wire to wire, opening up the game white-hot, hitting four of their first five three-point attempts of the contest. Citrus wasted little time in opening up a huge lead, running out to a 12-point, 14-6 advantage after a trey from Terrance Reaves with 15:23 to play.
Citrus would continue to keep the Vaqueros at arms length, allowing them to pull within four points of their lead, before embarking on a 16-4 run that pushed their lead back to double-digits after a fast-break dunk by Mark Dorsey that got kicked started thanks to a steal and assist from Curtis Eatmon.
The Owls would continue the same story in the second half, pushing their lead to as large as 21 points after a trey from Terrance Reaves made the score 57-36 with just over 15 minutes to play. Citrus’ lead would grow to as large as 29 points after another 3-pointer from Reaves, as Citrus’ lead dipped below 20 points just once (with just under 2 minutes to go) on their way to a 21-point victory.
In the win Citrus was led by freshman Nate Gibbs’ team high 16 points off the bench. Sophomore Mark Dorsey put together his best game of this season by adding 15 points and hauling in 10 boards. Other highlights included a game high 15 rebounds from sophomore Troy Payne and a game high 6 assists from sophomore Kelly Johnson.
With the win, Citrus improves to 20-4 overall and 4-1 in WSC South Division play, while Glendale falls to 8-13 overall and 1-3 in WSC South Division play. The Fighting Owls will be a recipient of a bye on Saturday before resuming conference play next Wednesday against Bakersfield College at home. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
