Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Citrus point guard’s Kelly Johnson and Steven Bennett combined for 34 points and 6 assists in helping lead the Fighting Owls to a 93-68 win over West LA College on Wednesday evening.

West LA would open up the contest with an early four point lead, but it didn’t take long for Citrus to take back control. The Fighting Owls would use a 9-2 outburst to take a four point lead after jumper in the paint by Mark Dorsey made the score 19-15.

Things only got better from there, as Citrus scored five of the next seven buckets to take an early seven point lead. Citrus continued to cruise in the first half take a lead as large as 19 points after a jumper by Troy Payne, before eventually settling in for a 17 point 48-31 advantage at the half, as Kelly Johnson hit a runner in the lane as time expired.

The Fighting Owls would continue the onslaught in the second half scoring the first eight points of the period taking a 25 point lead after a pair of free-throws from Johnson. Citrus’ lead would grow to as much as 30 points after a jumper in the paint by Bennett, before the Owls took home the 25-point victory.

In the win, Citrus shot 57.8% from the floor and 45.5% from beyond the 3-point arc. Bennett would finish with a game high 19 points, and Johnson was just behind with a season high 15.

With the win Citrus improves to 23-4 overall and 8-0 in WSC South Division play. The Fighting Owls will play the second of back to back road games on Saturday when they travel to LA Valley College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
