Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- The 2009 Citrus College Men’s Basketball sophomore class signings are complete with the announcement that sophomore Steven Bennett has signed on with NCAA Division II Chaminade University.
“Chaminade has a great environment, and is a place that will me give me a chance to play right away,” Bennett said. “These last two years at Citrus have been great for me. My motivation has improved greatly, and I have matured incredibly thanks to Coach Croy and his staff, not just in basketball, but in life.”
During his time at Citrus Bennett helped lead the Fighting Owls to a 63-6 record in two seasons, including a State Championship in 2008 and a State “Sweet 16” run in 2009. During the 2009 season, Bennett was second on the team averaging 10.7 points per game and led the team with 126 assists (3.8 apg). For his efforts, Bennett was named a 1st team All-WSC selection.
“We are unbelievably proud of Steven Bennett. He will go down in history as one of the all-time Citrus legends,” said Citrus College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rick Croy. “Chaminade is getting an electrifying point guard with dynamic leadership abilities.”
Bennett will join a Silverswords squad that finished 15-12 during their 2008-2009 campaign and returns just five players from last year’s squad. Bennett will also join former Fighting Owl Virgil Buensuceso (BYU Hawaii) in the Pacific West Conference.
