    Fighting Owls Cap Perfect Conference Season For Second Time In Three Seasons

    Santa Clarita, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- For the second time in three seasons the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team has capped a perfect conference schedule. Over the last three WSC South season’s Citrus has gone an unprecedented 35-1 for a winning percentage of .972. The Fighting Owls capped their 2010 perfect conference slate with a 73-66 victory at Canyons College on Saturday night.

    Citrus jumped out early on the Cougars running out to a 14-point 39-25 lead at the half. The Fighting Owls found themselves in a battle in the second half though as they shot just 26.1% from the floor and we’re outscored by seven points in the final 20 minutes. Citrus finished strong though and took home a seven point victory, dominating the glass in the process out-rebounding Canyons 46-35.

    In the victory, Citrus was led by sophomore Jose Rivera who scored 12 points and went 4 of 6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Fellow sophomore Keith Thompson added 10 points and a team high 10 rebounds. With the win, Citrus improves to 26-2 overall and 12-0 in WSC South play, while Canyons falls to 13-15 overall and 5-7 in conference games.

    Citrus now awaits the results of the Southern California seeding meeting to be held on Monday morning. The Fighting Owls will likely be the #2 seed in the South for the up-coming playoffs and host the winner of the #15 versus #18 play-in game on Saturday February 27th in The Owl’s Nest.
