    Jose Rivera Named Team Captain

    Thursday, October 22, 2009

Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Returning Sophomore Jose Rivera has been named the Citrus College Men’s Basketball program’s Team Captain for the 2009-2010 season. Rivera follows in the footsteps as such legendary Owls as Troy Payne, Darren Moore, and Phil Friesen.

“It is a big honor to be named the Team Captain,” Rivera said. “I’m excited for the upcoming season and am ready to be the captain and lead by example. I expect my teammates to bring it every day and never back down. We have a great tradition that was started here and it’s up to us to carry on the expectations that have been placed upon us.”

During the 2008-2009 season Rivera started in more games (nine) than any other returning sophomore and appeared in all 33 games for the Fighting Owls. Rivera was third on the team with a 9.1 points per game average, and shot 40.1% from the floor and a team high 39.6% from beyond the 3-point arc.

“Jose Rivera is ready to lead this team.  We are confident that his work ethic, discipline and experience will serve him well in his new role,” said Citrus College Head Men’s Basketball Coach. “We have been blessed with great leadership from our captains the last 4 years, and this year will be no different.”

You can catch Rivera and the rest of the Fighting Owls at Ventura College on Saturday November 7th, where they open the 09-10 season. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
