Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Fresh off an impressive career at UC Irvine, Bay Area native Brett Lauer has joined the Citrus College Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff. A six-foot one inch guard out of Concord, California, Lauer spent the last two seasons (his junior and senior campaigns) playing for the Anteaters where he averaged 8.5 points a game and led the Big West Conference in 3-point percentage with a .504 mark during the 2008-2009 season.
“I am honored to join such an elite and special program,” Lauer said. “The brotherhood and competitive nature of the men in this program is exciting to be around. I hope to add to this program and grow both as a leader and as a man.”
As a junior, Lauer made 13 starts for Irvine and ranked second on the team with 50 3-pointers. Prior to attending UC Irvine, Lauer played two seasons at the Community College level his first at Los Medanos and his second at San Diego Mesa, where he earned All-Pacific Coast Conference honors as a sophomore.
“Brett Lauer is an elite competitor. We are grateful that he has made the decision to begin his coaching career with Citrus Basketball,” said Citrus College Men’s Basketball Head Coach Rick Croy. “He will be a great teacher, coach, mentor and role model in our program. He showed extreme toughness in his journey to becoming a great Division 1 basketball player and we believe he will demonstrate that same toughness in his coaching career.”
As a high schooler, Lauer averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists a game at Clayton Valley High School where he was a two-time All-Bay Valley Athletic League 1st teamer. Lauer also set the school single game record of 10 three pointers in a game while at Clayton
You can catch Lauer and the rest of the Citrus College coaching staff and team on Saturday November 7th, when they kick off their season with a trip to Ventura College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
