Rivera Named WSC South Player of the Week

    Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Glendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Citrus College sophomore Jose Rivera was named the Western State Conference South Player of the Week for his play last week. Rivera scored 29 points between two wins over Bakersfield and LA Valley last week, going 9 of 15 from the field including 7 of 10 from beyond the 3-point arc. This is the second time in Rivera’s two seasons that he has been named the WSC South Player of the Week.

A six-foot three-inch 185 pound guard out of Brentwood, California, Rivera has helped lead the Fighting Owls to the top of the WSC South heap, as they sit alone in first place after just one week of the conference schedule. The Fighting Owls are currently ranked #3 in the State and #2 in the Southern California Coaches Polls.

You can catch Rivera and the rest of the Fighting Owls tomorrow as they travel to Santa Monica to take on the Santa Monica College Corsairs (8-8, 0-1). Santa Monica is the site of Citrus’ lone conference loss the last two seasons, when the Corsairs upset Citrus 75-76 last January. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
