Pleasant Hill, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- After suffering their first loss of the year on Wednesday to State #3 Diablo Valley College, the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team needed to get things back on track. The Owls did just that by making a Sayles Call, as freshman Keyon Sayles scored a season high 13 points in helping lead Citrus to a 72-64 win over Shasta College.
Citrus wasted little time in jumping out to a big 42-29 halftime lead over the Knights. Citrus’ offense slowed down in the second half, scoring just 30 points in the final twenty minutes, but it was enough to keep Shasta at bay as they cruised to the eight point victory.
Along with Sayles’ 13 points, sophomore James Walker added a team high 14 points. Freshman Kerry Carter chipped in with 13 and sophomore Brandon Parga added 12.
The win ended Citrus’ pre-conference play for the 2011-2012 season. Citrus will be back out on the floor next Wednesday January 4th when they begin Western State Conference South Division play at Glendale College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
