    Sloppy Start, Strong Second

    Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Valley Glen, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball team overcame a sloppy start and come out strong in the second half on the road on Wednesday night. The Owls picked up yet another win, a 71-61 variety at LA Valley College.

The Owls struggled out of the gate as the Monarchs opened up the game by scoring 17 of the first 28 points. Citrus was held to just nine points over the first ten minutes as they could not get their offense rolling.

Citrus would finally settled down late in the half using small runs of 4-0 and 6-0 to get back into the game and eventually going up 26-21 with just a minute left. At the half, Citrus would lead 28-24, it’s lowest halftime total of the season.

In the second half, Citrus turned things around pushing their lead to eight earlier on. Valley would make a run midway through the game, trailing by three with just over nine minutes to go, but a bucket by sophomore James Walker and big three from sophomore Brandon Parga pushed the lead back to eight.

From that point forward, Valley never really threatened as the Owls grinded out a 10 point win. Parga scored a team high 26 points in the win, while Walker chipped in with 18. With the win, Citrus improves 16-1 on the year and 3-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will be off on Saturday, but will be back home next Wednesday when they play host to Bakersfield College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
