Throughout the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team’s journey in the 2010 CCCAA State Playoffs, Citrus College Sophomore De’Andre Haskins will give the Fighting Owl faithful periodic insight into what is going on with him and the team. Today’s blog is the first installment of The Basketball Blog.
What I love most about this program is our FAMILY! Family is what drives me to work hard everyday; Family is what keeps me striving to be a professional in every aspect of my life. I feel that most of all our Family and our togetherness is what each and every person in our program feeds off of. I remember being in the playoffs while I went to David Starr Jordan High School and it was fun playing with the guys there, but being in the playoffs with my Citrus Family brings another level of excitement. I wake up every morning feeling eager and ready to compete and leave no regret and no doubt that I’ve done all I could for my Family.
Honestly, I feel that we are good or even great in a lot of areas, but being good or great isn’t enough. I think we have to strive for perfection every day this week and throughout the rest of our journey. I feel that our program is so unique because our coaching staff cares about their players becoming a productive member of society. I think that it’s taken us a while to get all of our players on the same page and thinking about the right things, but now that we have accomplished that, I can feel our chemistry improving every day.
It’s Wednesday when I write this and today we plan on watching film, evaluating our faults, as well as competing like we do every day; white versus blue. We are consciously working on the small details that I think other teams don’t understand that goes into our play. We are doing these, while trying to be a champion and we are trying to perfect them each and every day.
Thursday will be a slightly light day, we’ll shoot free-throws, go to the weight room and the coaches will give our Family insight on who we play and what the opposing team does by watching film. Friday we will practice hard and go over the other team’s plays and tendencies at around noon, then later that night have another practice to further prepare for our competition on Saturday night. I can’t wait to get out on the floor and compete.
