The Basketball Blog: Leave No Doubt

    Saturday, March 13, 2010

Throughout the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team’s journey in the 2010 CCCAA State Playoffs, Citrus College Sophomore De’Andre Haskins will give the Fighting Owl faithful periodic insight into what is going on with him and the team. Today’s blog is the sixth installment of The Basketball Blog.

As we stormed through the hallway of Cal Lutherans basketball gym, we felt it! The beginning of a new chapter was in effect. During our warm-up I was thinking about how badly our guys wanted to pounce on San Jose from the start trying to tear the Jaguars into nothing.

Our mentality felt like it has never felt before. Before tip-off all I could think about is leading the team. Not in points, not even in rebounds or assists. I wanted to lead the team in the best talk anyone has ever seen. While getting mentally prepared for the game I usually like to look in each player eyes and ask “are you ready?” I didn’t even need to ask!

I stood in a corner of the locker room where I could look around and see each player’s facial expressions and body language. I then called over one of the Owls’ future great leaders (Garrett Jefferson) over and told him, “next year when you look around the locker room, this is how a team that is ready for anything looks.”

After the game we gave thanks and showed our appreciation to each and every person involved in the Citrus organization, then went out and enjoyed our time as a family, eating Carls Jr. and Tommy Burger. When the ball tips tomorrow night, I know that the best thing we can do is compete as a family, but not only that, our key to victory is to LEAVE NO DOUBT!
