The Basketball Blog: On To Our Final Chapter

    Sunday, March 07, 2010

Throughout the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team’s journey in the 2010 CCCAA State Playoffs, Citrus College Sophomore De’Andre Haskins will give the Fighting Owl faithful periodic insight into what is going on with him and the team. Today’s blog is the fourth installment of The Basketball Blog.

After the buzzer sounded Saturday night I was in disbelief. I didn’t know what to think or what to say, I was speechless. After a few seconds, I did what everyone else did, and I celebrated! I didn’t celebrate just the fact that we made it in the Elite 8 in the State, but the fact that we as a team did what we said we would do. At the beginning of the season, we said that we would never lose in the Owl’s Nest, and we did just that. Another chapter of our journey is complete.

The feeling finally dawned on me when the guys from the team came over to my place later that night. We talked and celebrated a big win. I know that each player knows how hard we have worked to get in to the State Championships, and it means the world to everyone in our family.

I'm most proud of the growth our family has shown in the past week. We felt that we didn't play well as a team and our sense of urgency was not present in the game against Santa Ana. After that game we met as a family and said that we had to change. It showed last night, as we played an even better team and actually played liked a family.

I'm just going to take the time today on our off day to hang out with my teammates and enjoy our last day off as a Citrus College Men's Basketball player. It’s time to get ready for the State Tournament. I feel like the only thing we need to do to from here on out is to be ready to compete as a family like we've always done, not changing anything. On to our final chapter!
