Throughout the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team’s journey in the 2010 CCCAA State Playoffs, Citrus College Sophomore De’Andre Haskins will give the Fighting Owl faithful periodic insight into what is going on with him and the team. Today’s blog is the seventh and final installment of The Basketball Blog.
This season has been the best year of basketball that I’ve ever experienced. Playing on the Citrus Men’s Basketball Team was like no other experience in the world. I never thought that being around these 26 men would make me feel so different from any other group in the country. Deciding to come to Citrus was the best decision I’ve ever made in my entire life. In the beginning of the year we were just a group of players wanting to get out there and just make things happen by making plays. In the end we became a unit, created by bonds that will last forever.
Before coming to Citrus I know some players on the team including myself had a hard time adapting to this new way of competing, which was competing with complete trust of every player and every coach. Now, I can honestly say that I would do anything for each and every person on the team. I don’t think of the guys on the team as teammates, I think of them as my brothers.
Saturday night was the most devastating feeling I’ve ever felt. The feeling of not completing a task with your family, a task in which each and every person had to change how they operate to form a complete system. Reflecting on this season, I am proud that I’ve been a part of a life changing journey, but I am most proud of the fact that I know each and every person Left No Doubt.
My time here at Citrus has just begun! I feel that every player that has passed through Citrus under Coach Croy has become a better basketball player but most importantly a better man. Learning how to handle adversity in any setting, building strong bonds and ultimately being a “Pro” in every aspect of life. No other team will ever be the same as this year’s team. I can truly say that I love all 19 of my brothers and I will take absolutely everything that I have learned from my experience here at Citrus College!
