Men's Golf Falls Just Short in WSC Championships

Bakersfield, CA (Men's Golf) -- The Citrus College men's golf season came to a close on Monday. The Fighting Owls were impressive at the WSC Championships hosted by Bakersfield College at Sundale Country Club, but fell just short of pulling off a major upset finishing in 6th place, just 8 strokes out of third and a bid at the State Championships.

The Fighting Owls would shoot a combined 750 in the two rounds Monday morning and afternoon. Citrus would be led by Steve Whoolery, who shot an opening round 70 and a second round 73, both team lows. Sanshiro Kato posted Citrus' second best day with a 72 in the opening round and a 75 in the afternoon.

With Monday's sixth place finish, the 2008 season has come to a close. With four of their top six players coming back next year, the Fighting Owls will look to make a huge leap in 2009.
