Strong Start For Men's Golf at Orange Empire

Thursday, February 05, 2009

Chino Hills, CA (Men's Golf) -- The 2009 Citrus College Men's Golf season got off to a promising start on Wednesday afternoon, as the Fighting Owls finished in 6th place at the Orange Empire Tee-Off Classic. The sixth place finish is the best start in recent memory for Citrus, as they finished just 3 strokes out of a top 5 finish.

Leading all golfers in the clubhouse was Brett McCollum, who shot an opening round 70 on the North Course at Los Serranos on Monday. McCollum was followed closely by Perrie Garcia who shot an opening day 75.

On day two, McCollum and Garcia struggled a bit more on the South Course both shooting a respectable 77. Wednesday's low round belonged to Matt Peich though, as Peich shot a blistering 74 finishing his two days with a total round of 154. McCollum and Garcia's two day totals would come to 147 and 152 respectively.

With a good start behind them, the Fighting Owls will turn their attention to their first Western State Conference Match on Monday. Monday's match will be hosted by Canyons College at Valencia Country Club. Tee-time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
