Glendora, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Athletic Department announces the hiring of Trip Horton as the new Head Men’s Golf Coach. Horton takes over for Marsh Shumaker who announced his retirement last month.

Horton who is going into his fourth season as the women’s golf coach, will serves as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams. Last year Horton sent the first women’s golfer to the state tournament in program history.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity,” Horton said. “I am really excited about the chance to guide the men after three seasons with the women. I know I will be following in the footsteps of a coach who has had an impressive career. I look forward to the chance to keep our program at the forefront of the Western State Conference.”

“We are excited to have Trip on board with both our men’s and women’s golf programs,” said Dean of Physical Education and Athletics Jody Wise. “We know he will do a good job, and continue to make the Fighting Owls family proud.”

After 22 years at the helm of the Fighting Owls Men’s Golf team, Head Coach Marsh Shumaker has announced his retirement. Shumaker took over the reigns of the Fighting Owls in 1987 after spending seven seasons as the Assistant Coach to former Head Coach Jack Kakuuchi.

“Marsh has put a lot of quality time into our men’s golf program and will be missed,” Wise said.
