San Luis Obispo, CA (Men’s Golf) -- For the first time since 1999, the Citrus College men’s golf team has qualified for the Southern California Regionals. The Fighting Owls shot a two round team score of 767 finishing in fourth place just 9 strokes off of first place finisher Santa Barbara.
The Fighting Owls opened up the morning round by shooting a 383 the third best team score of the round. In the evening round, Citrus proved their consistency that’s helped them all year long by shooting a 384, the second best round of the afternoon.
Sophomore Sanshiro Kato led Citrus by shooting a pair of three over par 75’s in both rounds. Kato’s 150 was the best two rounds score, but sophomore Steve Whoolery had the lowest round of the day for any Citrus golfer, shooting a 73 in the evening round and finishing with a combined score of 152.
Citrus advances along with fellow WSC schools Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Canyons to next week’s Southern California finals. Tee-time is set for 10:00 AM at Marshallia Ranch Golf Course.
