Lompoc, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The most successful season in recent memory for the Citrus College Men’s Golf team came to a close on Monday afternoon. The Fighting Owls shot a two round score of 787 and finished 7th place out of the 11 teams competing.

Sanshiro Kato would lead Citrus after the first round by shooting a team low 74. Kato couldn’t keep pace in the afternoon round as he came back and shot an 80, virtually switching places with Steve Whoolery who shot an opening round 79 and then shot a 74 in the second round. Whoolery would shoot a combined 153, with Kato finishing just a stroke back with a 154.

The Fighting Owls finish their 2009 campaign as one of the most successful teams in recent memory, keeping pace in the toughest conference in the State (three out of the four teams representing the South in the State Championships are from the WSC), winning a conference match for the first time in WSC history, and qualifying for the SoCal Regionals for the first time since 1999.
