Owls Finish in Strong Sixth in Season OpenerBakersfield, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team opened up their 2012 campaign on Monday and Tuesday of this week at the 2012 Larry Carr Invitational hosted by Bakersfield College. The Owls finished in a strong sixth place out of the nine competing teams, finishing just three strokes out of a top three finish. Fighting Owls Stand Out at Inland Valley AmateurGlendora, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team had three players in the field for the 2011 Inland Valley Amateur Golf Championships this past weekend. Two of the three placed in the Top 10, and one led the entire field after day one. Favinger Fairs Well at SoCal ChampionshipsBermuda Dunes, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Citrus College freshman Shane Favinger represented the Citrus College Men’s Golf team very well at the yesterday’s Southern California Championships. Favinger finished tied for 23rd out of the 78 competing individuals with a two round score of 10 over par. Favinger Advances to SoCal FinalsChino Hills, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf season came to a close for all but one golfer yesterday afternoon at the WSC Championships at Los Serranos Golf Course. The Fighting Owls finished fifth out of the seven competing teams at this year’s finals, but freshman Shane Favinger advanced as an individual golfer to the Southern California Championships in two weeks. WSC Glendale Gives Men’s Golf Some TroubleGlendale, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team ran into some trouble on Monday afternoon at the WSC Event hosted by Glendale College. The Fighting Owls had just two rounds under 80 as they finished fifth out of the six competing teams at Oakmont Country Club. Citrus shot a combined team score of 384 and finished just six strokes back of second place Glendale, and 13 strokes back of first place College of the Canyons. Men’s Golf Struggles at WSC Neutral Site EventVentura, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team had one of their worst outings of the 2011 season on Monday at the WSC Neutral Site Event at Elkins Ranch Golf Course. The Fighting Owls hosted the rest of the Western State Conference at their home course San Dimas Canyon Golf Course on Monday afternoon in a WSC Event. Citrus finished second at the event by shooting a team score of 367, its best showing of the 2011 season. Men’s Golf Gets Best Results of Year at La Purisima InviteLompoc, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team had their best event of the year on Monday afternoon when they took third place out of seven competing teams at the La Purisima Invitational at La Purisima Golf Course. The Fighting Owls rolled up a team score of 412 and finished just two strokes back of second place Ventura and 14 back of first place Long Beach. Rodriguez Leads Men’s Golf at Ventura and HancockVentura & Santa Maria, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Citrus College freshman Jacob Rodriguez has been the Men’s Golf team’s steadiest player so far this season. That trend continued over the last two weeks as Rodriguez was the lone Fighting Owl to shoot in the 70’s at the WSC Event’s hosted by Ventura College last week and then Allan Hancock yesterday. Men’s Golf Falters at WSC Santa BarbaraSolvang, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team faltered on Monday afternoon at the WSC Santa Barbara event at Alisal Ranch Golf Course. The Fighting Owls had their worst outing of the year finishing seventh out of the seven competing teams. Getting CloserValencia, CA (Men’s Golf) -- After struggling in 2010, the Citrus College Men’s Golf team is showing signs of being one of the more competitive teams in the uber-tough WSC South. Despite finishing in sixth place out of the seven competing teams at yesterday’s WSC South Event hosted by Canyons College at Valencia Country Club, the Fighting Owls were just nine strokes out of fourth place and 15 out of third. The Fighting Owls showed some pre-season jitters on day one when they shot a combined 398, before rebounding on Tuesday with four rounds in the 70’s and a team score of 389 on day two. Shumaker To Be Inducted Into Men’s Golf Hall of FameGlendora, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Former Fighting Owl Men’s Golf Coach Marsh Shumaker will be inducted into the CCCAA Men’s Golf Hall of Fame. Shumaker, who spent the better part of 40 years at Citrus as a player, assistant and head coach, will be honored next week at the 2010 CCCAA Men’s Golf State Championships. Vonderber’s Season Ends at SoCalsMurrieta, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Freshman Mike Vonderber, who was the lone Fighting Owl to advance to the SoCal Regionals, finished his 2010 campaign on Monday. Vonderber finished his season by shooting 20 over par in a pair of rounds at the SCGA Golf Course yesterday afternoon. On to the Next OneGlendora, CA (Men’s Golf) -- For the second straight season, the Citrus College Men’s Golf team is moving on at least one person to the Southern California Championships. Freshman Mike Vanderber shot an opening round 79 before closing out the WSC Championships with a one under par 71 to qualify for the SoCals. Men’s Golf Finishes Last at Two WSC EventsLa Verne, CA & Glendale, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf teams 2010 struggles continued this week as they played in two WSC Events, one hosted by Glendale College and the other hosted by the Fighting Owls themselves at Marshall Canyon Golf Course. The Fighting Owls fared better at home, posting a team score of 382 on Wednesday after posting a 428 on Monday at Oak Mount Country Club. Vonderber Leads Citrus at VenturaVentura, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Mike Vonderber led the Citrus Men’s Golf team on a windblown Saticoy Country Club this Monday for the WSC Event hosted by Ventura College. On a day when a lot more 80’s were shot across the board than normal, Vonderber came into the clubhouse with a 78, the low round for the Fighting Owls. The Fighting Owls shot a team round 395 and finished just 10 strokes out of fifth place at the SCGA Course in Murrieta. The Fighting Owls lost to visiting Santiago Canyon College 373-372. Belliston and Parker Are Tops for Citrus at Canyons InviteValencia, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Freshman Ryan Belliston and Robert Parker topped Citrus’ effort at the Canyons Invitational on Monday afternoon. The duo both shot 83’s as the Fighting Owls finished last out of the seven participating WSC teams. Parker’s 74 was the low round for the Fighting Owls as they finished seventh of the seven teams. Owls Lose by Dozen Strokes at Santiago CanyonChino, CA (Men’s Golf) -- The Citrus College Men’s Golf team lost to host Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday afternoon at El Prado Golf Course. The Fighting Owls lost by a dozen strokes to the Hawks 389-375. Belliston Leads Citrus at Carr InvitationalBakersfield, CA (Men’s Golf) -- Freshman Ryan Belliston fired an opening round 70, the best round of any golfer during day one, as he helped lead the Fighting Owls in their season opening tournament, the Larry Carr Invitational. |
