Citrus Scares Up Win on Halloween Night

Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) – The Citrus College Men’s Soccer team’s season has resembled Freddy Krueger’s Nightmare on Elm Street more than It’s A Wonderful Life, so it’s only fitting that its first Western State Conference win comes on Halloween night, as the Fighting Owl’s defeated Glendale College 2-1 Tuesday.

Luis Jaime’s assist in the 18th minute set-up the Owl's 1st goal in their 1st WSC win tuesday night. Citrus College was dominated throughout the first half down on the pitch. The Owl’s were only able to muster 6 shots in the first half, while Glendale College got 16 shots off. The key difference in the match may have been goalie Felix Andrez who had 7 saves in the match. While the Owls weren’t able to get off as many shots as the Vaqueros, the Owl’s did a better job of converting those shots into goals.

The first goal of the night was a Citrus College goal as Luis Jaime had the ball deep in Glendale territory. He kicked a perfect pass that Alex Govea headed into the back of the net in the 18th minute to put the Owls up 1-0.

Citrus would stave off the Glendale attack until in the 32nd minute Kleiser Ortiz shot a laser off his foot and into the net from 20 yards out. The score would tie the game up at 1-1 where it would stay until well into the 2nd half.

With their backs against the wall, the Owl’s responded in the 79th minute. Hugo Seisdedos received the ball all alone at the 30 yard line. With the no one between him and the goalie, Seisdedos drew the goalie out of his box and looped the ball over the goalies head and into the back of the net to win the game for the Owl’s 2-1.

With the win the Owl’s improve to  2-13-2 on the season and 1-9-1 in WSC play. The Owl’s will be on the road this Friday as they travel to Moorpark before hosting their final two games of the season at home. Game time will be at 3:00 pm.
